the pops that are good but not great are often the hardest to write about, they are solid and won’t really disappoint but they don’t jump out at you too much either. when you proclaim yourself “the granddaddy” I would expect something more traditional and old school style, not exactly this more new taste with high sweetness and rather big carbonation. it is very sweet, I mean 42 grams of sugar, so it better be! the taste is good, not quite as “rooty” and hearty as I’d hope for in a sarsaparilla. Yup, this is rather yummy! not super yummy fantastic amazing, but it will definitely fulfill a craving. although this way it lets people unfamiliar with the concept of sarsaparilla know what to expect. they proclaim themselves “the granddaddy of all root beers” which is kind of funny as they make a root beer as well, so this would be its ancestor. in any case, I recall this being rather tasty which begs the question of why I really never get it those times I did see it. or maybe I just have taken less note of it as it became more of a fixture and not a unique sight.

I used to see this soda and the whole Sioux City line pretty often in grocery stores and also pizza and sub places and such but they seem to have lost some market share. it was just over 24 years ago that I reviewed the old recipe so really about time to try it again anyway.

this Sioux City Sarsaparilla was a nice surprise of a soda to review once again. I keep forgetting that Sioux City switched to cane sugar a few years back, so it was a good thing I checked all the sodas at Rocket Fizz when I went there.
